Group Camping Tours Cairns

As the access point to some of the most unique and rewarding group camping tours, Cairns is surrounded by heritage listed ancient rainforests covered by numerous national parks. The Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service operates campsites within most of the national parks.

You can do a circuit route of some of the more popular camping sites as we’ve explained in our blog, but you’ll need reliable transport. This is where coachhire’s bus hire services in Cairns can help out with our range of minivans and coaches.

Group Camping Tours Cairns

The Babinda Boulders Campground at Babinda is around an hour’s drive south of Cairns. There are plenty of cooling pools to swim in along with some great nature walks through rainforest terrain that take you to the local lookouts.

Both this campsite and The Boulders, another council run camping site a short distance away, are free to use. Campers are however restricted to staying 3 nights maximum but that’s ideal for a long weekend getaway. Facilities are basic and there is no power but again, that’s part of the fun of camping!

Group Camping Tours Cairns – Goldsborough Valley, Wooroonooran National Park

When your 3 days are up at Babinda you can head across to Goldsborough Valley in the Wooroonooran National Park along the Mulgrave River Forestry Road. This popular camping spot boasts clean, flat grassy areas to pitch a tent. Most of the sites have running water and there is an amenities block.

Things to do here include fishing and swimming in nearby Mulgrave River. Or you can head off into the mountains for some mountain biking or hiking adventures. This is old gold prospecting country and the Goldfield Trail follows the same path they took daily to their prospecting sites.

Group Camping Tours Cairns – School Point Campground, Danbulla National Park

From Goldsborough Valley head to the Danbulla National Park and School Point Campground on Lake Tinaroo. Alternatively, from Cairns direct it’ll take you about an hour and a half to get here. There are other camping areas around the lake but School Point is many people’s favourite.

There are basic facilities at School Point and if you have a kayak, be sure to take it along. The lake is so close to your tent you can just slip into it for a leisurely paddle whenever the mood takes you. There is no mobile phone coverage out here either so you really can get away from life for a while!

Group Camping Tours Cairns – Malanda Falls Caravan Park

South of Danbulla is Malanda and the Malanda Falls Caravan Park. This camping ground makes a perfect end to group camping tours in this area south of Cairns. It’s close to town so you can stock up on supplies before heading off elsewhere, or just back to Cairns.

The park has full amenities, which means an enjoyable hot shower after your days spent in more primitive camping spots. Get used to being back in civilisation, do the laundry and just generally prepare for a return to reality.

Group Camping Tours Cairns – Upper Davies Creek Campground, Dinden National Park

Twenty kilometres to the south west of Cairns is the Dinden National Park on the Atherton Tablelands. The Davies Creek headwaters are here and the Upper Davies Creek Campground is located a short distance away. It’s one of 2 camping grounds in the area but the only one that allows a campfire.

And what a spot to include in any group camping tours in Cairns! The camping site is surrounded by waterfalls, hiking trails, look out points and ancient rainforest. Whilst 4WD is the recommended way to access the camping grounds, 2WD vehicles can also get there most times of the year.

Rainforest group camping tours aplenty await you in Cairns. Grab your camping gear, stock up on provisions as many of these sites only offer basic amenities, and prepare to hit the road. The team at CoachHire is waiting to assist you with your transportation requirements so when you’re ready to book your Cairns coach charter, then contact us to book your coach or minivan.
