This year’s event will be held at the prestigious RACV Royal Pines Resort in Queensland. The total prize money up for grabs is a staggering AUD $1.5 million. And as usual, it will a seventy-two hole stroke event.
The Cut will be at sixty-five after round two, and the players will be competing for the oldest trophy in Australian professional golf, namely the Kirkwood Cup. Again, as usual, the play will start each morning at 6am during the week and at 6.30am on Saturday and Sunday.
The tournament was first held in 1905 at the Royal Melbourne Course when Dan Soutar won the first of four championship wins in Australia’s leading golf competition. Soutar gave way to Carnegie Clark who took over with a further three victories.
In more recent times the trophy was taken in 2017 by Cameron Smith, 2016 by Harold Varner III, and in 2015 by Nathan Holman, all at the Royal Pines Resort.
The last time it was held at a different venue was in 2012, when Daniel Popovic was victorious at the Palmer Coolum Resort. The first and last time the tournament has taken place at that particular venue.
The Gold Coast is attracting a top field of golfers to compete for the coveted 2018 Australian PGA Title.
Geoff Ogilvy will be coming to the Gold Coast for the first time since 2012 and is highly fancied to be high up on the leaderboard come Sunday 2nd December.
